ACE

The School of Accounting Collaborative for Excellence (ACE) is designed to help all Spears students in their accounting courses succeed by providing them with peer tutoring, mentoring, and career advice.

Beta Alpha Psi

BAP is an honorary organization for accounting students and professionals that promotes accounting at OSU through engaging members, industry and educational institutions to develop members into ethical, professional and confident leaders. Membership is open to accounting students who are currently enrolled in or previously passed Foundational Accounting Skills (ACCT 3003).

Alumni

OSU’s accounting program has a proud tradition of building the future of accounting, producing more than 6,500 graduates since its inception in 1926. With the support of our engaged alumni, the accounting program continues to prepare accounting students to make a difference in the world. Every year since 1979, the school has honored outstanding graduates as Distinguished Alumni at the Wilton T. Anderson Hall of Fame Awards Banquet.

Department initiatives

Research

Accounting faculty conduct research published in top accounting journals. Recent faculty publications have covered many relevant topics including whether severance pay affects the timeliness of bad news disclosures by companies, auditor responses to FCPA risk, the Asian financial crisis, the accuracy of going concern opinions, experiential education in accounting, and internal auditors’ internal control evaluations.

Outreach

The School of Accounting faculty serves businesses, governments and non-profit organizations through education and outreach, including the Annual Oil and Gas Accounting Conference, the Accounting and Financial Reporting Conference and the Ph.D. Alumni Research Conference.

Scholarships

The School of Accounting annually awards nearly $200,000 in scholarships to more than 70 accounting students. The school has made a long-term commitment to obtaining financial resources so our students will have an affordable education.

Professional exams

We encourage our students to obtain one or more professional certifications including certifications as a CPA, CMA, and CIA. The CPA credential is a symbol of trust and professionalism in the world of business; the CMA® credential is the global benchmark for management accountants and financial professionals; and the CIA designation is the hallmark designation in the field of internal auditing. These certifications open up opportunities that can lead to influential jobs in every industry.
