Cortney received her Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management from Purdue University and did what her mom told her to do “go big or go home” so she moved to Las Vegas. For 9 years she worked in casino beverage operations starting in an hourly position and moving up to become a Director of beverage operations. In that time she oversaw countless bars and beverage operations, ranging from lounges and clubs to pools and showrooms. Eventually, she moved on from casinos to work for independent food and beverage companies in the Las Vegas region before returning to school to earn her Ph.D. in hospitality administration. Cumulatively she has 22 years of hospitality industry experience. She has been a faculty member at Oklahoma State University since 2022 and teaches a wide range of beverage courses for the program.
