Dr. David Biros is an Associate Professor of Management Science and Information Systems at OSU. A retired Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Biros’s last assignment was as Chief Information Assurance Officer for the AF-CIO where he developed and coordinated an array of information assurance policies. He also served as an augmentee on the Air Force Inspector General (IG) team, which influenced his interested in ethics and compliance. Dr. Biros taught courses on Legal and Ethics in Information Security and currently teaches Information Assurance Management and Information Technology Auditing for compliance with an emphasis on the Institute for Internal Auditors (IIA) code of ethics.

Jennifer Coonce is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Management at OSU. Raised in Stillwater, Jennifer has spent the past sixteen years living in New York City. She served as the Chief Information Security Officer at UBS Wealth Management, where she was responsible for the execution of the security risk assessments and provided security advisory support for legal, compliance, and numerous lines of business. After leaving the financial services industry, she was appointed the Vice President of Retail for Dolce Vita. Jennifer started her career in the Information Risk Management Group at KPMG, LLP in Dallas.
Leveraging her diverse corporate background and risk management experience, Jennifer focuses on ethical decision making and ethical leadership. She teaches Management and Ethical Leadership (MGMT 4073), a required ethics course for all management majors. Jennifer also serves as coadvisor for the NASBA Student Center for the Public Trust Chapter at OSU.

Rachel Cox, MS, CPA, is an Instructor of Professional Practice in the Accounting Department at OSU. She encountered ethical dilemmas firsthand in her prior professional experience in the corporate world, and is passionate about promoting student awareness of business ethics at OSU. She is approved by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy to teach “ACCT 4553—Ethical Issues in Accounting” as a required undergraduate course for future CPAs. Rachel serves as a coadvisor for the NASBA Student Center for the Public Trust Chapter at OSU. Rachel also has been invited to speak on Ethics for Business Professionals at various events coordinated through the Center for Executive and Professional Development and the Riata Center, including the Introductory Tribal Finance and Accounting Program, Oklahoma Clerks & Treasurers, and the Veterans Entrepreneurship Program.

John T. Holden is an Assistant Professor of Legal Studies at OSU. Prior to his arrival at OSU, John worked for two years as a Visiting Scholar at Florida State University in the Department of Sport Management. John’s academic scholarship is focused on legal and regulatory issues surrounding sports betting, related issues of sport corruption, ethics, and the emerging esports industry. His research has been published in a wide variety of academic and legal journals. John has also testified and submitted written recommendations regarding the legalization of sports betting and daily fantasy sports on the state and national level. He has also filed two Amicus Curiae briefs at the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also been quoted in a variety of outlets ranging from USA Today and Forbes to NPR. John is licensed as an attorney in the state of Florida. He earned his Ph.D. from Florida State University, his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa, and his J.D. from Michigan State University. John is a native of the Toronto-area.

Laurie Lucas is an Associate Professor of Legal Studies and currently serves as the Director of the Center for Legal Studies & Business Ethics and Chair in Business Ethics. She also holds a Spears Chair in Business Administration. Prof. Lucas’s research is primarily focused on compliance and ethical issues in consumer financial services law, and legal issues for entrepreneurs. She is currently the Advisory Editor-in-Chief for the American Business Law Journal, the leading journal for the Academy of Legal Studies in Business. She also is a member of the American Bar Association Business Law Section’s Publications Board. Prof. Lucas also serves as a member of the Governing Committee for the Conference of Consumer Finance Law, a nonprofit organization founded to offer resources to members of the legal profession and the financial services industry related to consumer financial services law. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on the legal and regulatory environment of business.

Karen Maguire is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at OSU. She is an active researcher and teacher in the fields of Energy Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics, and Regional Economics. Her research analyzes whether environmental policies that promote renewable energy development and CO2 emissions reductions in the United States are having the intended effect. She teaches Environmental Economics, which includes examining how resource use today affects resource availability in the future. This is fundamental to the concept of sustainability, considering how society’s choices today affect the environmental resources that are available in the future. These choices necessarily involve questions of economic efficiency, but also include ethical questions about how we as a society today value the future.

Steve Ruby is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. Prior to returning to OSU as faculty, Steve spent several years in private practice in Tulsa, focusing primarily on commercial litigation in state and federal courts at both district and appellate levels. Steve teaches courses in Hospitality Law and Ethics (HTM 4103) and Human Resource Management (HTM 3783). In 2016 he founded the Hospitality Legal Series to provide resources for HTM students, faculty, alumni and industry partners regarding legal and regulatory issues in hospitality and tourism. The Legal Series has hosted seminal authorities on Oklahoma’s changing liquor laws, tribal gaming, real estate transactions and sexual harassment. Steve has also been appointed by the Oklahoma Supreme Court to serve as an Associate Bar Examiner. He has given multiple presentations to national and regional groups in the area of liability in agritourism and his research has been published in the Oklahoma Journal of Law and Technology. Steve’s work at OSU also includes advising numerous student and industry groups including the Wine Forum of Oklahoma and the Distinguished Chef’s Scholarship Benefit Series, as well as serving as Coordinator of the School’s Internship Program.

Betty J. Simkins is the Williams Companies Chair, Regents Professor of Finance, and Head of the Department of Finance at OSU’s Spears School of Business. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Simkins began her career as a chemical engineer for Conoco and as an engineer and planning analyst for Williams Companies. Currently, she teaches energy finance courses and conducts research, which she presents internationally, while she also travels globally teaching executive education for energy companies. In June 2018 she was appointed to the Market Risk Advisory Committee for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Betty has received numerous teaching and research awards. Her primary area of research is risk management, including energy risk, with a secondary focus on energy finance and corporate governance. She has published extensively in leading finance journals and has authored three books on energy finance and enterprise risk management. Betty is editor of the Journal of Commodity Markets and serves on numerous other Editorial Boards. She is past president of the Eastern Finance Association and Vice President of Education for the Financial Management Association International, and she holds membership in several energy industry associations.

Dr. Smith Washington is an Assistant Professor of Management at OSU. Her focal research areas span workplace issues such gender and diversity, social identity management, influence, and interpersonal bias and mistreatment. Currently, Dr. Smith Washington’s research examines the impact of unconscious bias and stigma on the ways individuals manage their professional image at work, as well as organizational factors that facilitate the inclusion and advancement of women and underrepresented minorities. For example, she is engaged in research focused on the roles of intersectional identities and bias on the experience of senior level women in corporate America. In line with her gender, diversity and influence research agenda, Dr. Smith Washington has published research in such outlets as the Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, and European Journal of Work & Organizational Psychology, and edited books such as the Handbook of Prejudice and Discrimination and the International Encyclopedia of Organizational Studies. She has presented her research at the Academy of Management, the Southern Management Association, and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

Griffin Pivateau is an Associate Professor Legal Studies and the Puterbaugh Professor of Legal Studies and Ethics in the Department of Management at OSU. His research explores employment law and its impact on the business environment. His work addresses issues of employee mobility, discrimination, and dispute resolution. Numerous legal treatises and journal articles, as well as state and federal courts, have cited his research. Professor Pivateau is a graduate of the University of Texas School of Law and is licensed to practice law in Texas and Louisiana.

Josh Wiener is currently a coeditor of the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing. For decades, he has been a leader in the American Marketing Association’s Marketing and Special Interest Group. These are the intellectual homes of marketing ethics. He has taught ethics to MBA students for thirty years. His teaching emphasizes how middle managers can both be ethical and advance their careers. His research has been published in leading marketing journals (JM, JMR, JCR, JAMS). The focus of his ethics-based research is how to motivate individuals to voluntarily take actions that benefit society.
