OSU MS BAnDS student earns top-five paper award at prestigious SESUG Conference

Monday, September 30, 2024

Harish Palakurthi, a second-year Master's in Business Analytics and Data Science (MS BAnDS) student at Oklahoma State University, achieved notable recognition at the prestigious Southeast SAS Users Group Conference (SESUG) held Sept. 22-24 in Bethesda, Maryland.

Palakurthi's paper was ranked among the top five papers presented at the conference, showcasing the high quality of his research and his contribution to the field. His research, "Comparative Analysis of Sentiment Prediction Methods Using Aspects in Consumer Reviews," explores innovative approaches to improving sentiment prediction by analyzing distinct aspects within consumer feedback.

"It is hard for any MS student to get a paper accepted at a conference like SESUG, and that itself is a great honor for him,” said Dr. Goutam Chakraborty, director of the MS BAnDS program. “But, to win one of the best paper awards is much more difficult and is a testament of the hard work and dedication of Harish and the MS BAnDS faculty who mentored and encouraged him to do his best. Congratulations on a job well done!"

This recognition showcases Palakurthi’s skills in data analytics and reflects the MS BAnDS program's excellence in equipping students with the tools they need for groundbreaking research and future success.

“Attending SESUG was an incredible experience, and I am truly honored to have my paper recognized among the top five,” Palakurthi said. “The conference provided me with a wonderful opportunity to present my research, engage with fellow professionals and gain valuable insights from other experts in the field. I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Goutam Chakraborty, Dr. Miriam McGaugh and all my friends at OSU for their continuous guidance and encouragement throughout this journey. Their support was instrumental in shaping my work and helping me achieve this milestone.”
