Business analytics and data science student recipient of Disney Data and Analytics Women Award

Spears School of Business graduate student Shubhi Gupta is one of only four students from across the United States to receive the prestigious Disney Data and Analytics Women Award. Gupta, a second-year master’s in business analytics and data science student, received an all-expense paid trip to the Disney Data and Analytics Conference Aug. 14-16, including free lodging at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

It's the second year in a row that an Oklahoma State University business analytics and data science graduate student has received the award. Recent OSU graduate Sai Sreeshma was the 2022 recipient.

“It was one of the proudest moments of my life,” Gupta said. “Sometimes I feel that it is a complex path for women to excel in tech related fields. However, this initiative from Disney, recognizing four women in data related fields every year and giving them an opportunity to network with leaders and top executives of organizations, assures me that there are people rooting for women to succeed in tech.”

The Women Award winners are invited to attend the conference and participate in conference activities, special networking sessions, and are matched with Disney mentors who support them throughout the conference.

Gupta presented at the conference a poster of her research paper, “Are you posting it right?” The research delves into the factors that contribute to enhancing engagement in LinkedIn posts. By analyzing more than 5,000 LinkedIn posts, the study employs machine learning algorithms to identify crucial features associated with increasing post engagement. This investigation aims to provide insights into optimizing post strategies for improved engagement outcomes on the LinkedIn platform.

“I am extremely proud of Shubhi’s achievements to win this prestigious award,” said Dr. Goutam Chakraborty, director of the OSU Master’s in Business Analytics and Data Science program. “This is a great honor to her and to our MS in Business Analytics and Data Science program. This is the second time in last two years our student has won this award and is a testament of the many hours our core faculty spend in preparing students to compete well on the national stage.”

Gupta enjoyed the conference and learning from her peers.

“At the conference, I gained valuable insights into the strategic implementation of data and analytics across various facets of a business, as exemplified by companies like Disney,” she said.  “Witnessing how data informs decision-making and drives efficiency in every aspect of their operations was truly enlightening. This knowledge will undoubtedly guide me in my career, enabling me to make informed, data-driven decisions that contribute to organizational success.”
