Two Oklahoma State University business analytics students received scholarships to participate at the recent 2024 INFORMS Business Analytics Conference in Orlando.

Asif Syed and Shubhi Gupta, students in the OSU Master’s in Business Analytics and Data Science (MS BAnDS) program, received Early Career Professionals’ Network (ECPN) scholarships and showcased their research at the conference April 14-16. Also, business analytics students Vishwesh Purohit and Yulun Wang had their work accepted and presented their posters at the conference.

“Attending the ECPN workshop was an incredible experience, I learned so much,” Gupta said. “A major highlight for me was the session hosted by the Women in OR Society at INFORMS. It was truly inspiring to hear from female executive leaders in operations research and analytics.”

Gupta and Syed were co-authors of the poster “Are you posting it right? – A data driven solution for optimizing your LinkedIn posts for better engagement,” which was presented at the conference.

“This was my first time attending any conference, so networking with professionals helped me step outside my comfort zone,” Syed said. “I also had the opportunity to learn about topics such as Gurobi ML and Walmart’s assortment optimization methodology through talks organized by the respective companies.”

Purohit and Wang were both pleased to have their respective posters – Purohit’s poster “Understanding Student Preferences in University Housing through Choice-Based Conjoint Analysis” and Wang’s “Analysis of news coverage on Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects in the United States” – accepted for presentation at the conference.

“Presenting my poster on analyzing on-campus students’ housing preferences at the conference was a great experience,” Purohit said. “Many industry experts engaged with my poster and provided new approaches to my project. I also had a chance to attend workshops on topics like applications of Gen AI which improved my current understanding.”

Dr. Goutam Chakraborty, director of the Business Analytics and Data Science program, was pleased the students were able to attend the conference.

“I am very happy that our students have won two of the coveted ECPN awards and had four posters accepted and presented at the INFORMS Analytics Conference,” he said. “This is a testament of the strength of our program and the hard work of our students.”
