Chabinak, the manager of graduate programs in the Watson Graduate School of Management at Oklahoma State University’s Spears School of Business, will preside over the association from Jan. 1, 2025, until assuming the Past President title in 2026. Chabinak is OACADA’s 2024 Four Year Institution Representative, and she previously held various steering committee positions throughout 20 years of advising.

Before beginning her presidential term, Chabinak will speak at the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) conference set for Oct. 27-30 in Pittsburgh. Her presentation, titled “Won’t You Be My Advisor? Graduate Students Need Helpers Too!” offers advice from her decade of experience as a graduate advisor.

“OACADA provides great opportunities to learn best practices and innovative approaches to serving students, and I am honored to help advance the organization as our next OACADA president,” Chabinak said. “I am also excited to share my knowledge and experience of graduate student advising at our national conference with advising colleagues from across the U.S. and around the globe.”

Chabinak started working at OSU in 2004, spending the first half of her career advising undergraduate students before transitioning to the graduate level. She holds three degrees from OSU: a bachelor’s degree in family relations and child development, a master’s in counseling and student personnel and a doctorate in education.

OACADA, a professional development organization for academic advisors at public and private institutions across the state, is an affiliate member of NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising. Visit the website to learn more about OACADA.
