A team of Oklahoma State University business analytics graduate students placed second in the Iowa Business Analytics Case Competition at the University of Iowa.
Landrie Alsobrook, Shubhi Gupta, Ranjith Kumar and Asif Syed won $3,500 with their second-place finish in the competition, a chance for the brightest graduate-level analytics students in the country to work together to solve a real-world business problem.
“We couldn’t have done as well as we did if any of our team members – Landrie, Shubhi and Ranjith – weren’t there,” Syed said. “This competition was a great experience for our team as it helped us test our presentation and data analysis skills against other top teams from across the United States. Also, constant encouragement from Dr. Goutam Chakraborty helped us push an extra mile, which ultimately paid off.”
During the competition, teams performed a deep-dive analysis and considered multiple data points before making their recommendations to a panel of industry experts, including Ball’s vice president of human resources. Teams from the University of Wisconsin, the University of Colorado and the University of Illinois competed.
The OSU students traveled to Iowa City, Iowa to compete April 4-5 in the competition.
Chakraborty, director of OSU’s Master’s in Business Analytics and Data Science (MS BAnDS) program, was pleased with the team’s performance.
“I am delighted that our team competed hard and finished second in this prestigious business analytics case competition,” Chakraborty said. “This is a proof of our students’ hard work, of their tenacity and of the world-class education they receive at Oklahoma State University.”
