Spears & Sports

The Business Blog that keeps you in the game and up to date with everything OSU sports

Welcome to the first blog column for the Spears School of Business. As the writer of a recurring blog, I wanted to introduce and tell you a little about myself. My name is Dalton Wolf, and I am a senior here at Oklahoma State majoring in marketing and minoring in sports management. I hail from the great state of Texas. Specifically, from Midlothian, about thirty minutes south of Dallas. A fun fact about Midlothian is it’s actually the cement capital of Texas. I know it's pretty cool. Bet you wished you lived in Midlothian now.Dalton Wolf

Anyways, I am also the co-host alongside Dean Eastman of  our Podcast at Spears, The Buzz on Business. I am considerably involved on campus, as a part of the NIL Brand Squad, Marketing Club, Sports Management Club, Sales Club, and last but not least Cru Ministries.

Then possibly the most important tidbit of information about me is that I am an avid and passionate sports fanatic. I have a deep love for sports. Since I was young, I have loved sport and now that I am older, I love business. So, when starting this blog column, it was a no-brainer what I would write about sports and business. In other words, Spears & Sports, the business blog that keeps you in the game and up to date with everything OSU sports.

This is the first of many Spears & Sports blog posts. I wanted to start this column because I share a love for Oklahoma State sports and business. I am sure many of you do as well. Through this column, I plan to bring exciting highlights of The Spears School of Business and sports right to you.

This past Saturday, The Spears School of Business hosted its annual tailgate. We served over 600 Spears alumni, staff, faculty and students. The Spears School of business was in full force and ready to cheer on our 11th-ranked Cowboy football team against Pac- 12 foe, the Arizona State Sun Devils.

I think it is safe to say Spears knows a thing or two about southern hospitality as the annual tailgate didn’t disappoint, from phenomenal local Stillwater Purdy Q catering to Frio’s gourmet popsicles. Not to mention the spectacular new merch that was available. The tailgate was a success. Not only was the tailgate a success but our Cowboys had success on the field defending our home turf and defeating Arizona State 34 to 17.

The Spears tailgate is always one of our favorite events to put on and while it is incredibly entertaining and enjoyable for everyone, it also speaks to the power of personal. It is more than a tailgate, it is an opportunity to connect with old and new friends, enjoy the moment and remember life is bigger than food and football. Don’t get me wrong, I deeply love both of those things. However, I know there is a depth that comes from our passions. Passions like food and football.

One of my best friends from home told me that, “it’s the people that make the place.” He said this a lot because he understood you could be in Norway and be looking at the Northern Lights and not enjoy it because of the people you are around and vice versa. You could also be in Norman around that campus we shall not name, and still have a great time because of the people you are surrounded by because people make the place. That statement is true about Spears. It is the people and the “Power of Personal” that makes Spears undoubtedly welcoming and distinguished as a premier business school in higher education.

What a privilege to be a part of a dynamic institution with incredible people that also know how to have fun and support one another. If you had the opportunity to be at the tailgate this past weekend, I hope you had as much fun as I did and if you couldn’t make it out, we will see next year for another phenomenal Spears tailgate.
