Dr. Chenzhang Bao, assistant professor in management science and information systems at the Spears School of Business, has been awarded the Best Paper Award from the Special Interest Group on Advances in Sourcing of Association for Information Systems (AIS SIG) for 2023.
The AIS SIG Sourcing Best Paper Award recognizes recently published research on an information systems sourcing topic that has the potential to have a significant impact on theory and practice.
“This award means a lot to me,” Bao said. “It indicates that my research has gained visibility and recognition amongst my peers in the field, and demonstrates that my hard work has produced results.”
Bao received the award for his paper, “Value implications of sourcing electronic health records: the role of physician practice integration.” The purpose of the paper is multifaceted. First, the team proposed a novel framework to quantify healthcare value, taking both cost savings and a variety of patient health outcomes into consideration. Second, the paper addresses the ongoing debate between using single- versus multi-sourcing strategies of health information technologies that can improve the value of care delivered. Lastly, the team investigated the alignment of sourcing strategies with medical practice integration to enhance health information sharing and healthcare value.
Bao’s research focuses on the clinical and business implications of health IT and analytics in the value-based care environment. This paper, in particular, unveils research that could open new avenues for future projects in the area of value-based care.
“Receiving this award has inspired me to keep discovering new ways our research can impact the healthcare industry,” Bao said.
