Six students in the nationally recognized Hospitality and Tourism Management program were among participants earlier this month at the Future Leaders Forum at IMEX America at Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.
Sam Beaty, Catie McCraw, Amanda Fiorazo, Nagesh Krapa, Anjaneya Nanda Kishore Voggu
and Drew Van Vors represented the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) at IMEX America, the largest trade show in the United States for the global meetings, events and incentive travel industry.
“My experience at IMEX America connected me with seasoned professionals in the event industry,” McCraw said. “In addition to gaining new insights from them, the Future Leaders Forum gave me an opportunity to explore the trade show floor and I watched as deals were being made. Everyone on the trade show floor has a common goal, to provide valuable experiences for visitors and for buyers.”
The undergraduate and graduate students learned about key topics in the events industry, including sustainability in events and in professional developments such as personal branding, networking skills and community leadership. In addition, the OSU students had roundtable sessions to network with industry professionals from major hospitality and tourism companies and had an opportunity to explore show floors and see real-life applications in trade shows.
The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management offers event management concentration and event management minor for students who are interested in pursuing their career in the events industry. Visit the HTM website for more information about OSU’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
