OSU Offers Exceptional Training Opportunity for Tribal Financial Manager

Oklahoma State University is offering its awarding-winning Introductory Tribal Finance and Accounting Certificate for tribal professionals in Stillwater.


This four-day cohort program, which runs May 10-13, 2022, provides the opportunity to connect with other tribal peers while gaining knowledge and experience to help them become effective tribal finance/accounting professionals. Sessions will be led by representatives from the Jacobson Law Group, Sheppard Mullin, BKD, Dorsey & Whitney, Baker Tilley Virchow Kraus, REDW and the Spears Business School of Accounting. Continuing Education Unit and Continuing Professional Education credits are available in addition to the certification.


According to Rachel Domnick, OSU School of Accounting instructor, Native American tribal governments are a unique type of entity. While they maintain status as a sovereign nation, they also rely on federal funding and that requires specialized tribal, state and federal financial reports.


“With Oklahoma being home to 39 tribal governments, we have a vested interest in serving tribal government,” she added. In 2021, the Native American Finance Officers Association (NAFOA) selected OSU’s Introductory Tribal Finance and Accounting Program as its Education Program of the Year.


The certificate program was specifically created for the following tribal professionals:

  • Entry-level employees in tribal financial positions
  • Professionals who need to acquire increased knowledge regarding tribal finance and accounting (i.e. accountants, lawyers, bankers, etc.)
  • Elected tribal officials and leaders who wish to better understand the financial side of a business decision.

Registration is $1,700 (NAFOA member) and $1,850 (non-member). Registration includes instruction, materials, breakfast, lunches, receptions, refreshments and certificates. One copy of the Financial Reporting Information Guide for Tribal Governments and Their Enterprises (Orange Book) as published by the Native American Financial Officers Association will be distributed as part of the registration fee to each participant.
