Our Work
What we do
We Transform Healthcare.
The Center for Health Systems Innovation (CHSI) at Oklahoma State University exists to solve the hardest problems in healthcare, where need is greatest, resources are scarce and traditional models fall short.
For more than a decade, CHSI has operated at the intersection of data, technology and real-world care delivery, building and deploying solutions that improve outcomes for rural and Native American communities while generating insights that can scale nationally.
Innovation Without Implementation Produces Powerpoints And PDFs
We create solutions to transform patient care with an intensive focus on rural primary care and communities.
Areas of Focus
Where Innovation Meets Impact
CHSI initiatives are designed to move from concept to impact. We don't study innovation from a distance. We partner, test and deploy it alongside clinicians, health systems, communities and payers.
Predictive Health Analytics & AI
CHSI is a national leader in applying advanced analytics and AI to complex healthcare challenges. We develop algorithms to improve decision-making processes and clinical outcomes.
Through our Predictive Medicine Group, we leverage large-scale, longitudinal real-world clinical datasets to:
- Predict disease onset and progression
- Identify high-risk patients earlier
- Enable proactive, personalized interventions
Rural & Tribal Health Innovation
We create solutions to transform patient care with an intensive focus on rural primary care and communities. We design, test and implement solutions to clearly defined problems in rural primary care clinics and hospital settings.
Through long-standing partnerships with rural clinicians and hospitals, tribal health systems and state agencies, we:
- Pilot new care models in real-world rural environments
- Deploy technology that works with limited resources and workforce constraints
- Co-design solutions with communities, not for them
Technology Evaluation & Deployment
CHSI serves as a trusted innovation partner for innovators, entrepreneurs, healthcare providers, payers and policymakers seeking to identify and deploy best-in-class innovations.
Our work includes:
- Source, build and evaluate emerging healthcare technologies
- Run structured pilots and proof-of-concept programs
- Measure clinical, operational and financial impact
- Support adoption, integration and scaling
Policy, Payment & Practice Change
Healthcare transformation doesn't happen without alignment across policy, payment and practice.
CHSI works with state and national partners to:
- Inform data-driven health policy
- Design innovation platforms and public-private partnerships
- Align incentives to support sustainable care and payment models
Our role is often to translate between worlds by connecting policymakers, technologists, clinicians and communities around shared outcomes.
Network Channels
From Concept to Deployment
Innovation doesn't scale without trusted pathways into the real world. CHSI's Network Channels are the connective infrastructure that allows ideas, technologies and insights to move rapidly from concept to deployment across rural communities, health care providers, businesses and policymakers.
Together, these Network Channels give CHSI a rare capability: the ability to identify problems, test solutions and scale impact across clinical, community and economic stakeholders.
Research & Collaboration
Research Resources
Impact at scale requires collaboration.
CHSI brings together clinical data, research expertise and collaborative partnerships to develop and implement innovative healthcare solutions.
Resource 01
Clinical Data & Analytics
Cerner Health Facts is a real-world, de-identified electronic health records database described in CHSI's original research resources. Its clinical information supports healthcare analytics, predictive medicine and research into improving patient outcomes.
Researchers and innovators interested in collaborative data projects can contact CHSI for information about current research resources and data request procedures.

Resource 03
Research Collaboration
Healthcare is complex. The development of innovative healthcare solutions requires contributions from multiple areas of expertise and disciplines.
CHSI partners with academic researchers, healthcare providers, technology companies and other mission-aligned organizations to develop, test and implement solutions that improve healthcare outcomes.
