Hours

Typically, a three-hour credit internship student will be expected to work 10 hours per week with their host company either on site or remotely (120-160 hours per semester overall). Companies and students will negotiate schedules including specific days, times and number of hours per week. If there isn’t capacity for the 10-hour per week option, it is possible to opt for a one-hour credit internship (40 hours for the semester) or a two-hour credit internship (80 hours for the semester).

Application process

Step one

In order to provide the best experience for host companies and our students, host companies for the Riata Internship Program typically fall into one of three categories:

  • Startups between one and 10 years old with at least five employees

  • Small businesses with between 10 and 50 employees

  • Large corporate innovation centers (new product development, new product launch, spin-offs, etc.)

Step two

Provided the company and position meets the criteria mentioned above, host companies will be notified of acceptance into the program and the position will be posted on the Riata Internship Program job board. At that time, the Riata Center will provide host companies access to student intern resumes, and then each host company should contact candidates directly to schedule interviews.

Companies interested

If interested, contact the Riata Center and provide the following information:

  • Brief history and description of the company, including number of employees and start day

  • Job description and overview of responsibilities for intern

  • In addition to traditional job responsibilities, the Riata Internship Program requests that interns possibly have the opportunity to work on a specific and reasonable project that will create identifiable and lasting value for the host organization.

  • Duration, including hours per week and number of weeks the intern will work

  • Internships are generally in the summer, but there are options for the spring and fall semesters
