Amy Andrews and Chioma Okpalaeke, graduate students in the Oklahoma State University’s School of Entrepreneurship’s doctoral program, were recently selected to receive Best Reviewer Awards from the Academy of Management. They were recipients in the Entrepreneurship Division at the Academy of Management’s 84^th annual meeting.

 

“To put this in perspective, the Entrepreneurship Division is one of the largest divisions within the Academy, and typically receives over 1,000 papers for consideration,” said Vishal K. Gupta, Entrepreneurship Division chair elect. “Typically, only 1-2% of the reviewers are selected for the prestigious Best Reviewer designation. This is truly a considerable accomplishment.”

 

Andrews is in her third year of doctoral study and is currently focused upon entrepreneurship among the U.S. veteran population. Okpalaeke is in her second year of the entrepreneurship doctoral program and is on pace to graduate in 2027. Her interests revolve around family business and informal entrepreneurship.

 

“This award is a testament to Amy and Chioma’s work ethic, expertise and conscientiousness,” said Dr. Matt Rutherford, professor and Ph.D. coordinator in the School of Entrepreneurship. “They are both on a trajectory to be globally recognized academics.”

 

Each year during the annual meeting, the Academy of Management recognizes authors and reviewers of journal articles that were published in the previous year in each of the Academy's six journals. The selection process for the award committee for each journal is determined by the individual journal. In general, articles and reviewers selected:

• Advance the mission of the individual publication;
• Bring forth core ideas that are original, important and provocative;
• Have a clear and important contribution to the field of management;
• Best reviewers provide timely, development reviews.
