Two Oklahoma State University business analytics students were awarded the prestigious Early Career Professional Network (ECPN) scholarships to attend and present their research at the 2023 INFORMS Business Analytics Conference in Aurora, Colorado.
Tejaswi Maruthi and Kalbe Agharia, graduate students in the OSU business analytics program, joined more than 700 leading analytics and data science professionals and industry experts at the conference. Both were pleased with the opportunity to learn and network with professionals from across the nation.
“I took advantage of the many networking opportunities available by attending workshops, panels and receptions, and actively engaging with other attendees,” said Maruthi, whose research presentation was ‘Apparel Marketing Using Vision AI.’ “Through these interactions, I gained valuable knowledge about the latest trends and best practices in the field, as well as insights into how top leaders in industry and academia approach complex problems.
The OSU business analytics students said receiving the ECPN scholarship was a difference maker in attending the conference.
“Receiving one of the ECPN scholarships meant a lot to me,” said Agharia, whose research presentation was ‘How to get better at chess: An analysis of beginner to intermediate level chess games.’ “The support provided by ECPN, in terms of networking opportunities, not only helped me better understand my upcoming role as an analyst but also gave me confidence, stemming from their trust.”
“Being awarded the ECPN scholarship was an incredible honor for me as I have always been captivated by the prestigious reputation of the INFORMS Business Analytics Conference,” Maruthi said. “Participating in the ECPN program allowed me to interact with a group of talented professionals who shared my interest in business analytics. Being surrounded by such accomplished leaders and peers was incredibly inspiring, and I was fascinated by the unique stories and journeys of each individual. It was a truly enriching experience that I will always cherish.”
Dr. Goutam Chakraborty, director of the Master’s in Business Analytics and Data Science (MS BAnDS) program, was pleased the students were awarded the scholarships and able to attend the conference.
“I am delighted to have two of our MS BAnDS students win the ECPN award this year,” Chakraborty said. “This is a prestigious award given to about 25 students nationwide and having two of our students in that group showcases the strength of our program. I am very proud of the students’ hard work that resulted in them getting this award.”
