Two Oklahoma State University business analytics students were recognized at the recent JMP Discovery Summit for their research projects.
Tuan Le and Lavada Blanton, students in the 4+1 master's in business analytics and data science program (MS BAnDS), were recognized as winners and Top Three Finalists at the JMP Discovery Summit. Lee earned the Best Student Poster for “analyzing COVID-19 Tweets Using JMP Pro 15” presentation, while Blanton’s poster was chosen as a Top Three Finalist.
“The discussions I received from presenting the poster at the conference made it a fun learning experience for me and being recognized for the work I put in made the whole experience multiple times better,” Le said.
Both of the OSU Students participated virtually in the conference, presenting posters about their selected research topics. Blanton said the experience was well worth the time.
“The JMP Discovery Summit was an opportunity to present to professionals from industry-leading companies,” Blanton said. “My poster dealt with optimal release strategies (such as streaming vs. theatrical) for movies. I got encouraging constructive feedback on this topic from people who had experience in this area and consumers of the product. This feedback is guiding me in extending my work for future conferences. In addition, I got to attend different sessions from people and organizations I greatly admire (like MIT and NASA), learning about the novel and creative uses of analytical methods I've learned in my classes.”
Dr. Goutam Chakraborty, director of the business analytics and data science program, was pleased with his students' recognition.
“I am delighted that we have two of our MS BAnDS student's posters recognized for awards in the JMP discovery conference,” he said. “We have had a poster recognized in the past but never had two at the same time. This is a testament to the hard work by our students and the dedication of faculty who prepare them for doing such great work.”
