Friday, January 22, 2021
Harry Lim from Malaysia is our January Graduate Global Student of the Month. Harry has his bachelor’s and master’s in industrial engineering from Oklahoma State and is currently pursuing his master’s in business administration. Harry is originally from Penang, Malaysia. Malaysia is a multicultural country consisting of Malays, Chinese, Indians, and Sikhs. This cultural diversity is reflected in the variety of foods, traditional dances, and arts. Harry’s hometown is widely known as the Silicon Valley of the East and it is famous for its colonial architectural landscape.
Harry chose to study at OSU because both of his brothers attended OSU.
“I chose to study at OSU after visiting campus years ago for my brother’s graduation. It felt like home!”
Harry has been involved with a variety of clubs during his time at OSU. Currently he is involved in the Asian American Student Association, the Vietnamese American Student Association, Cowboy Cousins, and the Malaysian Student Society.
“Through the Malaysian Student Society, I am able to feel as if I am home again when we have gatherings among OSU students from Malaysia during celebrations like Chinese New Year. As an International student, I have learned to be independent in many areas especially in a country that is completely foreign to me.”
Harry’s hobbies include working out at the gym, playing basketball, and cooking. He also enjoys trying foods from different countries!
Harry describes himself as a consistent, disciplined person who works hard to complete a task with full effort. Harry also strives to include and help those around him, including international students who are new to OSU.
“I am also an includer, which is one of the reasons I am participating in many different area clubs. I like meeting new friends and helping them especially new and foreign students to help them experience college while feeling like they are at home.”
We are proud to call Harry our Global Student of the Month and even more proud to call him an OSU Cowboy! Congratulations Harry.
