Leadership Essentials

This one- or two-day onsite program is designed to give new supervisors the skills they need to be successful with their teams. The content of this program is customizable to complement a company’s internal training and development offerings.


Building Your Program

Two-day sessions include all modules. For one-day sessions, choose 4-5 modules to combine with the capstone simulation to build your personal leadership program.

Module 1: Understanding your role and responsibilities as a leader (45-60 min)

  • Explain the key responsibilities of a leader and how they differ from individual contributor roles.
  • Identify strategies to effectively transition from doing tasks independently to leading and delegating through others.
  • Apply leadership techniques to balance personal contributions with team management and delegation.

Module 2: Aligning team vision and purpose with organizational objectives (45-60 min)

  • Explain how individual and team tasks contribute to achieving organizational goals.
  • Identify strategies to align team priorities with organizational objectives.
  • Apply communication techniques to clarify team vision and purpose in support of broader organizational goals.

Module 3: Communicating effectively through behavior management and feedback (90 min)

  • Explain the importance of clear communication in setting expectations for team members.
  • Differentiate between providing feedback on observable behaviors versus personal characteristics.
  • Apply techniques for delivering effective feedback verbally and in writing to improve team performance.

Module 4: Fostering employee connection and engagement (60 min)

  • Explain the key factors that contribute to employee engagement and how leaders influence them.
  • Identify strategies to build a team climate that promotes trust, inclusion, and connection.
  • Apply techniques to strengthen employee relationships and enhance engagement within teams.

    Module 5: Coaching for career development and career advancement (60 min)

    • Explain the role of intrinsic motivators in employee development and career growth.
    • Identify strategies to coach employees effectively in their current roles.
    • Apply techniques to prepare employees for future-oriented responsibilities and career advancement.

      Module 6: Managing conflict and difficult conversations (60 min)

      • Explain strategies to identify and address conflict early to prevent escalation.
      • Identify techniques for conducting difficult conversations in a constructive and professional manner.
      • Apply leadership approaches that promote accountability and positive outcomes during challenging interactions.

      Module 7: Structuring and delegating work for high-performing teams (60 min)

      • Explain how effective work structuring and delegation enhance team performance and reduce bottlenecks.
      • Identify common team hindrances that may be holding back your organization and how to overcome them.
      • Apply techniques to create a team culture that promotes challenge, achievement, and recognition.

      Module 8: Structuring effective meeting strategies (60 min)

      • Explain the different types of team meetings and their purposes in achieving organizational goals.
      • Identify strategies to plan and structure meetings efficiently to maximize productivity.
      • Apply techniques to conduct effective meetings that save time and engage team members.

      Module 9: Organizational culture: Aligning culture and strategies for your company

      • Explain the key elements of organizational culture and how they impact company strategy and performance.
      • Develop approaches to align organizational culture with strategic objectives to drive business results and employee engagement.
      • Assess current organizational culture and identify opportunities to reinforce behaviors that support strategic goals.

      Capstone Leadership Simulation Exercise:

      • Apply leadership and management strategies learned throughout the program to realistic workplace scenarios.
      • Analyze the impact of decision-making and actions on team performance and organizational outcomes.
      • Reflect on alternative approaches and outcomes to enhance future leadership effectiveness.
