Career Correspondence

In today’s job search world most applications are done online, but many times you have the opportunity to supply additional materials along with your resume. This provides another opportunity to distinguish yourself (in a positive way) from other applicants. Correspondence that is well organized and properly formatted can make the difference between getting an interview and being left in cyberspace.

Did you know there are at least 3 types of cover letters you could use to impress a potential employer? To make sure you’re sending the right letter to the right person, the Spears School Graduate Career Consultant offers individual and small group letter-writing seminars for students in all business masters programs.

At some point in the search process you will be asked to provide a list of references to a potential employer. Of course you want to provide contact information for people who will only have the most positive things to say about you, but did you know how that information is organized on a page can add to or detract from your overall appearance in the eyes of an employer? Along with resume and letter development, the Spears School Graduate Career Consultant is here to help you assemble a top notch presentation of the most effective references.

After you get that interview you have the perfect opportunity to follow up with a simple “thank you” note. Everyone likes to hear an occasional “thank you,” but did you know sending a thank you note to an interviewer can distinguish you from other job applicants in a most effective way? A brief session or e-mail exchange with the Career Consultant can result in the development of a perfectly crafted note that will increase your chances of a 2nd interview and attainment of that elusive job offer! Note cards with the Spears School logo are available in the Graduate Career Services office at no charge.
