Marketing Internship Program

MKTG 4850: Applied Marketing Strategies (3 hours credit)

The internship should involve at least 10 hours of effort per week for a minimum of 10 weeks (or any other combination that produces a total of at least 100 hours). It does not matter whether or not students receive pay for the internship; both for-profit and not-for-profit enterprises are eligible. In addition, the formal course can be taken concurrently with the internship or after the completion of the internship. THIS IS IMPORTANT: Although the internship must be approved before enrolling in the actual course, students can enroll in the course after starting the internship – if they are already working, for example – as long as they can deliver the required course documentation—see next.

Over the course of the internship students will be required to deliver eight (8) journal entries describing their marketing experiences and key learnings. In addition, the student will turn in a 10 to 15-page written report describing key experiences and learnings. This report is NOT simply a summary of the journal entries, but instead should be focused on a key topic. For example, if the internship involved a substantial project, the written report might summarize that project. As another example, a student might take an important frontline marketing issue and discuss that issue with respect to how the company addresses that issue. The journals, written report, and a report from a supervisor at the internship will determine the final grade for the course.
