February 2019 - Graduate

Rohit Banerjee

Background

Our graduate International Student of the Month for February is Rohit Banerjee. Rohit is from Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He is currently pursuing his Masters of Science in Business Analytics. He is also involved with the Indian Student Association, playing on the soccer team and helping organize their cultural events. Rohit is very proud of his home town, Kolkata, saying it “is considered to be the cultural capital of India and famous for its sweet dishes. Also, a fascinating fact is, 5 of the Nobel Laureates of India are from Kolkata.”

When describing why he chose to study at Oklahoma State University, Rohit said this, “It is never easy to decide a university while you are in a different country but I always prefer to consider the place and the people rather than the ranking and program as I believe studying is a student’s responsibility, but a good surrounding helps the student to nurture the qualities of a true human being. And I fell in love with this little university town from the very beginning. I still do not understand how people are always happy at my university. Obviously, the Business Analytics program is one of the greatest in the country, so that is another reason.”

Best memories/experiences at OSU

Rohit has truly enjoyed his time at OSU so far, and has made an effort to involve himself in many extracurricular activities, “I am an avid lover of soccer, I played for the Indian Student Association. I was also a committee member of the Indian Student Association in my first year and organized events like Diwali Night. I have designed posters for the ISA for various events.” Rohit also wanted to mention a memorable event he got to experience in the Student Union, “A special mention to the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor night everyone watched in the Union, what a great experience it was!” Rohit has also been able to grow professionally in his time here, “I also presented a paper in a SAS conference in Austin in 2018, which left a great impression on me and I learned so much from scholars from different universities.”

Accomplishments and Hobbies

Rohit is involved with the Indian Student Association, helping organize events for the group. He loves to draw, especially pencil sketches. He also enjoys writing, and writes pieces in his native tongue, Bengali. Rohit loves to travel, and makes an effort to experience new places and cultures often. He traveled through 8 states on his way to San Francisco in 2017, and this past winter break he visited Thailand. In summary, Rohit describes himself as someone “who loves creativity, travel, and soccer. I want to be among the people because I believe perspectives are very important in life. And as far as my educational qualification goes, I love data and always try to build a story around it so that everyone can understand that.” Rohit’s dream is to “see the world as a global citizen.” This is a great dream to have! Congratulations Rohit!
