Juan Parra was born in Venezuela and he is proud of his background. Juan mentions that “I’m originally from Merida, Venezuela located in the Andes. It was founded by the Spanish conquerors in 1558. It is a city with a great history. It is also known as “City of Gentlemen” for the hospitality and chivalry of the locals. Venezuela is a land with a lot of contrast, from the Andes Mountains, the Caribbean, the Angel Falls and the Tepui Plateau Chain to the Amazon jungle. Making it ideal for tourism.”
Juan is part of the Dual Degree Program between Oklahoma State University and UPAEP in the Master of Manufacturing and Quality and the Master of Business Administration. And he’s deeply involved in several extracurricular activities. When talking about why OSU, he mentions that “I decided to study at OSU to learn more about the business world and combine my experience and knowledge in engineering to have a better perspective on how a business works. I have to say that I’m very lucky to be in the MBA program with awesome peers. My international and multicultural background helped me to adapt very well to the American culture. I think that having a different point a view and understand different cultures have helped me to be successful in the program”.
Best memories/experiences at OSU
Looking back at his time at OSU, the MBA student mentions that “I decided to participate with other MBA students in the intramural games. We enrolled out team in most of all the sport offered, we got together for soccer, volleyball, basketball and softball games, and me made the playoffs for most of the sports. It was a great opportunity to make new friends and to build life time relationships.”
Accomplishments and Hobbies
In regards to his hobbies, Parra talks about his great passion “I have been an avid mountain biker for a few years. When I moved to Stillwater I had the opportunity to meet other grad students with the same passion for this trilling sport. We often go to the trails around the town. Our goal is to participate in races as a team and to obtain results.
Juan Parra is Vice-President of LASA (Latin American Student Association), a founding member of the Net Impact graduate chapter and participates in the MBA Association.
Finally Juan defines himself as “a dedicated person that always is trying to improve. Playing sports since I was very young helped me develop a good attitude and taught me to always work hard to accomplish my goals”.
