The Center for Legal Studies and Business Ethics and the Department of Management and the School of Accounting are pleased to announce their support for the newest student group in the Spears School: The Student Center for the Public Trust (Student CPT).

The Student CPT “provides students with an interactive environment where ethical business behaviors and ideas can flourish, while creating opportunities for students to network with the business community and develop professional leadership skills,” said co-advisor Rachel Cox, who teaches accounting ethics. Cox, a professional practice instructor in accounting, and Jennifer Coonce, a professor of practice in management, are co-advisors for this organization.
“This organization will help unify various business organizations across the Spears School with the common goal of developing ethical leaders who are ready to navigate unique dilemmas in the workplace,” said Coonce, who teaches courses on management and ethical leadership.
“Both Rachel and Jennifer have extensive industry experience,” said Laurie Lucas, director for the center and Chair in Business Ethics. “One of the goals of the center is to bring that real-world experience directly to the students, so that they can begin to see the real connections between good ethics and good business.”
Alfonzo Alexander, president of NASBA’s Center for Public Trust, which sponsors the Student CPT chapters, was the keynote speaker at the group’s kick-off event in April. Around 40 students were in attendance. Going forward, the club plans to host different “ethics events” in conjunction with other organizations and work to create synergies across all departments in the Spears School.
