The Spears School Alumni Panel will offer students the opportunity to hear from several prominent OSU alums. Sponsored by Business Student Council and the Alumni Society Board, the event is free and dinner will be provided.
Wes is currently Managing Partner of Essentia Advisors. He has extensive accounting and risk management experience in the energy industry and has worked in both public accounting and industry. His industry experience includes power and gas trading, exploration and production as well as crude and products refining.
Wes graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1982 with a degree in accounting. He was employed by Arthur Andersen where he became a partner in the Assurance Practice in charge of the Firm’s Energy Trading and Risk Management practice. Wes was responsible for delivery of a range of services to large clients which were focused on building risk and commodity trading systems as well as business processes in accounting, treasury, credit risk, market risk, transaction structuring and reporting.
After leaving Arthur Andersen, Wes became Chief Accounting officer of Enron Wholesale Services in 2000. At Enron, he oversaw the company’s accounting for commodity trading in North and South America and Europe. Upon Enron's bankruptcy in 2001, Wes was part of a management team formed to sell Enron’s energy trading businesses. As a part of that sale, Wes assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer for UBS Warburg Energy where he remained until 2003. At UBS Wes was a member of the operating committee responsible for energy trading operations within UBS.
Since leaving UBS, Wes has formed and managed a group of consulting companies which provide a range of energy advisory services to clients in the U.S., Mexico and Europe.
Donald Sample grew up on a farm in the Panhandle near Guymon.
His father was a mechanic and his mother was a bookkeeper; and they eventually became the owners of Allen’s Inc. – a Minneapolis-Moline farm equipment dealership in Guymon.
He graduated from the SSB at OSU in 1987 with a degree in Management and a minor in aviation.
He joined Conoco in Casper, Wyoming which started his 31+ year career in the oil and gas business.
In his career, Don had the privilege of living abroad and enjoyed experiencing the different cultures and challenges.
While his teams have been very successful at developing businesses that have added significant value to the company, his greatest achievement has been helping others achieve their goals.
In 2018, after over 31 years with the same company, Don decided it was time for a change; so he co-founded a consulting company which he is just beginning to grow.
Don met his wife, Fransisca in Jakarta Indonesia. He still enjoys flying his plane when he isn’t traveling or consulting.
Angie Ward has spent the past 13 years of her career in Commercial Banking. She currently serves as First Vice President, Treasury Management Sales Officer for MidFirst Bank in Oklahoma City. Also within her career, she has served as both Director of Cash Management and Treasury Management Regional Sales Manager. Her primary responsibilities have been leading and developing Sales Teams, Growth Strategies for her respective markets and regions, as well developing new Commercial business and portfolio management. Angie served as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors for the Edmond Chamber of Commerce in 2016. Through her involvement with the Chamber, she created and founded the first ‘Woman of the Year’ award given in early 2009, and has worked side by side with the Edmond Chamber of Commerce on planning the Inaugural Women’s Leadership Conference which just celebrated its 6th conference. She represented the Edmond Young Professionals by working with Lt. Governor Todd Lamb’s office, in conjunction with other Young Professional groups across the state, on creating a statewide Young Professional’s Conference which is held in October every year. This same group also created Oklahoma Young Professional Leaders, which is the first Statewide Young Professional Organization of its kind, with Ward serving as Chairwoman of the Board in its initial two years. Ward is also a member of the Spears School of Business Alumni Society Board where she leads the planning of the Spears School Annual Alumni Panel in partnership with the Business Student Council. In addition, Angie is a graduate of Leadership Edmond Class XXIV, Past Chairman for Edmond Young Professionals, past President and Secretary of the Metro Business Alliance Networking Group, past Executive Leadership Team member for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Event, past member of Northwest Young Professionals, and volunteer/fundraiser for Junior Achievement. Ward was named one of the Top 20 under 40 by Business Times Magazine in 2010, OKC Biz Forty under 40 in 2012, and the Journal Record’s Achievers Under 40 in 2013. She was the 2010 Edmond Chamber Volunteer of the Year, named the 2013 Tayo Fichtl Young Professional of the Year, named one of the Passionate Women in Business by Business Times Magazine in 2016, and was the recipient of the OSU Spears School of Business Young Alumni Award in 2016.
Ward graduated magna cum laude from Oklahoma State University in 2004 with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration majoring in Finance with a Commercial Banking Option. In July 2013, she graduated from The Graduate School of Banking at The University of Colorado where she graduated with distinction in the Top 10% of her class and served as class President. In her spare time, Angie enjoys attending OSU sporting events, Thunder Basketball games, and Life Church.tv. She enjoys concerts, traveling, and spending time with her husband, family and friends.
Liza Wenzel is the owner of Wenzel Creative + Strategy, a full-service graphic design studio based in Tulsa, OK.
Liza’s guidance, business insight, and design expertise have formed the bedrock for success at Wenzel Creative. It was in 1994—with several years’ experience in graphic design and art direction under her belt—that she made the leap to establish her own graphic design studio. Through hard work and determination, she went on to build a successful design studio that specializes in strategic, creative branding for businesses that desire to make a lasting impression.
Wenzel Creative + Strategy was built on top of a sturdy foundation that consists of over three decades of staying up-to-date with the latest technology, following design trends, and maintaining strong client relationships. Most importantly, Liza knows that operating a top-notch studio hinges on creative talent, and for that reason, she pays special attention to crafting and cultivating her dream team. Her continual efforts have resulted in a staff that is approachable, flexible, and reacts quickly and confidently in the face of each new challenge.
At the end of the day, Liza firmly believes in the power of distinct, visual messaging and its ability to make businesses stand out from the competition. And in order to consistently accomplish that level of high-quality branding, Liza works hard to enforce the primary goal of Wenzel Creative + Strategy: To design content that’s rooted in strategy and soaked in creativity.
Current and past clients of Wenzel include QuikTrip Corporation, GE Adhesives & Sealants, Disney, X-Games, Williams, Mabrey Bank, Osage Casino, River Spirit Casino, M-D Building Products, and US Beef Corporation (Arby’s). Liza currently sits on the advisory committee for OSUIT (Okmulgee, OK). She is also a board member and past president of the Tulsa Executive Exchange (TEE) and member of Executive Women’s International (EWI). Liza earned her degree in Visual Communications from Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology in Okmulgee, OK.
