Dissertation Writing Workshop
Monday, August 14, 2017, to Friday, August 18, 2017, Student Success Center, North Classroom Building, OSU Stillwater Campus
This workshop will be open to doctoral students from the Spears School of Business who have begun or are ready to begin writing their dissertation. Such students will typically be planning to graduate in Spring 2018 or Summer 2018. Students will receive instruction in several different dissertation writing topics, have a supportive writing environment to work on their dissertation with snacks and lunches provided, and are required to participate in an accountability writing group to facilitate the success of their dissertation writing across the fall and spring semesters. Registration opens April 1 and closes June 30 each year.

The initial Monday morning meeting will cover how the workshop will work and organizing your writing effort. The daily schedule will consist of four 1 to 1 ½ hour sessions for students to work on their dissertations in accountability groups with other students and a writing facilitator. There will be a midmorning and midafternoon snack break with short writing tips (3-minute writing tips or 3MWTs). Lunch will be provided. The afternoon sessions will start with the Writer’s Toolbox topic presentations will then mirror the morning sessions with time to write as well as snack breaks and 3MWTs.
The writing accountability groups will continue to meet biweekly eight times during the fall semester to facilitate progress on students’ dissertations.
Participants are required to attend all of the all-day workshop sessions. Participants failing to attend all of the all-day workshop and all of the accountability sessions will be charged a $100 non-participation fee to their bursar account.
Students who applied for the workshop require their advisor’s confirmation that they are ready to initiate writing of their dissertation.
Note that submitting the request form below does not guarantee that students will be able to attend. Space is limited and priority will be given to Ph.D. students from the Spears School of Business who apply first. Students who are accepted will be notified via email.
